Recovery is a state in which we abide in Christ and Christ abides in us. We hold steadfast to Christ through every storm and He holds onto us. We abide in Christ when we are fully engaged with Him in all that we do. Every decision, every step we take, every action includes Christ. In recovery, we are learning more each day about how to stand our ground and never let the enemy get a foothold. We stand firmly by abiding in Christ.
Being steadfast, for many of us, can be a difficult task to learn in recovery. When things got tough we would usually run. Some of us would run at the slightest mention of anything that resembled an emotion. We escaped through our addictions and habits. We only committed to those things that were fun for us, and things that weren’t would be avoided.
Life is going to be difficult at times. We have to remember that, while we are abiding in Christ, He is abiding in us. We are growing and our lives are not based on comfort and enjoyment through worldly things. We now seek those needs through Christ. Our recoveries demand that we be all in and committed to making a real and lasting life change. When we abide in Christ, we know that there is nowhere else to run. We hold steadfast to Christ and He holds steadfast to us.
