Absolutely Free

You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness. Romans 6:18

Before coming into recovery, we were slaves. We were slaves to our addictions, our codependency, our insecurities, our fear, our anger, and our need to control. We served our masters well and we were rewarded with chains and locked cells.

An old Chinese proverb says “Man takes a drink. Drink takes a drink. Drink takes a man.” Whatever we give ourselves over to will become our master and us its slaves. We can give ourselves to worldly masters or we can give ourselves to be slaves of righteousness.

The world sees sin as freedom and righteousness as slavery. When we become slaves to righteousness, we begin to understand that true freedom comes not in what we desire to do. Freedom comes from surrender to Christ. The more we surrender, the more we experience freedom. When we surrender our pain, addictions, anger, control over to Christ, Christ breaks the shackles of sin and death. Being free people, we experience reality and we leave behind the insanity of this world and its enslavement. We are absolutely free.

Father God, You have set us free from the bondage of sin and death. We are now free to live a life that is full of hope and abundance. Our chains are gone and we are free to move openly in Your realm instead of the confinements of the world. Thank You, Father God for setting us free.
