Three things keep us stuck and not able to move forward in our recovery journey with Christ. The first, and most obvious, is satan. The enemy would love nothing more than to keep us from experiencing all the wonderful things that Christ wants to give us. The second thing is the world or the people of this world. No one wants to feel like they are being left behind. There are people who do not have our best interest at heart. The third is ourselves. We can be our own worst enemies and sabotage our own recoveries without even realizing we are doing it.
There are so many ways that we stay stuck. Even with time in recovery, we can become stagnant and comfortable. We choose not to obey Christ when He tells us it’s time to move forward. Our flesh resists change. We trade our potential for comfort and stay frozen in a false sense of security. We trust our ourselves rather than trusting Christ.
True security comes to us, not in things we have but in what we can give to God. We will never be fully alive until we let go of everything that holds us back from experiencing Christ. We let go of people, places, and things that have kept us from experiencing true freedom in Christ. Letting go and moving beyond everything that desires to keep us stagnant is the true measure of our growth and our love for Jesus.
