Recovery allows us the blessing of taking off our old masks that, in our pasts, we have hidden behind. We stop pretending that we are something other than ourselves. This blessing, called recovery, allows us the experience of being real. We will experience difficulties as we are being real, but a moment spent in reality is better than a lifetime spent in delusion.
We are now seeing life with new eyes. No longer do we live in darkness. Seeing what is real can be difficult at times. We lived our lives in blindness, and now we have to find our balance as we journey through reality. We have to learn how to get adjusted to the bright sunlight of God’s real truth.
Our eyes have been opened. We stop believing the lies the enemy has been telling us. We stop pretending and wearing masks. Those masks never fooled anyone but ourselves. They were our security blankets for our faces. Recovery is about taking off the masks and living with sincerity and integrity. This honesty allows us to experience really how God sees us rather than with the illusions we constructed about ourselves. God’s perfect love allows us to be ourselves. Being real is a result of our progress in recovery and a gift we receive from God.
