We have been called to freedom. In Christ-centered recovery, we are called to experience freedom over our hurts, habits, and hang-ups. God has placed us in our recovery groups so that we can know what it means to be a free people. There is a power that comes from experiencing chain-breaking freedom.
We know that God is at work in the lives of each one of us. He’s setting us free from the bondage of sin and the slavery of our self-sabotaging thinking. God has called us to His freedom for a reason. We don’t use the freedom He has given us to satisfy our flesh. Being free does not mean we get to now sit back and watch from the sidelines. God wants us in the mix of everything. Being free does not mean we are free to work against the will of God and do only what we desire.
God has called us to be a free people. We are free to love and serve one another without a requirement to do so. God did not set us free in order to then enslave us with obligations to repay that freedom. We serve out of the same love that was shown to us when God set us free. We serve each other not out of a need to atone, Christ did that work for us. We serve because we love and desire only to glorify God through our service.
