Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

Mark 4:38-39

Christ is with us in every storm. He quiets the raging winds and calms the turbulent seas. No storm can withstand the power of Christ’s reassuring presence. When it looks like everything in our lives is about to be blown, Christ steps in and commands the winds to cease.

The storms of our lives are going to happen. No one goes through life without experiencing some tempests. Sometimes, we might have people in our lives that like the excitement of storms. They become addicted to crisis and chaos. We are called to love them, but we cannot share the storm that is their lives.

We each need to spend quality time with Christ, enjoying His calm. Each day we spend time with Christ, learning how to be comfortable with being calm. Many of us have lived our lives in storms for so long that quietness seems foreign. The more we spend time with Christ in quiet prayer and meditation, the more we can allow Christ to be with us and calm the storms that rage throughout lives.

Today’s Prayer

Lord Jesus, You calm the storms in our lives and command the winds to quiet. We spend time with You, learning how to be calm and to enjoy the moments that You have given us. There are no storms greater than you. We are in Your gentle calm and are always safe with You. Amen.
