Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18

There is a restored, antique carousel in St. Augustine, Florida which has been in operation for decades. The carousel is loved by the locals so much that they affectionately refer to it as “The Carousel of Love.” The old remember going when they were children and now take their own grandchildren to ride on it. There’s really nothing unique about this carousel since St. Augustine has so many other fascinating sights to see and experience. However, this one simple attraction has an emotional bond so strong that generations of locals and tourists alike wait in long lines for the opportunity to ride.

We all have our own “Carousel of Love” that causes us to smile when we think about it. Life goes on around us, and change is constantly happening. When we think about it, Jesus is like that “Carousel of Love.” He remains the same as we see the world running past us, sometimes in a blur. When we are with Christ, we are children again who are experiencing something new, wonderful, and timeless.

Our time on the carousel seems to only last a moment. We experience the sensation of traveling without going anywhere. There are times we look around us and life is moving so quickly that all we see is a distortion. No matter what is going on around us or inside us, we have Christ who brings everything back into focus. Christ allows us time to experience the exhilaration we felt as children riding on the “Carousel of Love.”

Today’s Prayer

Lord Jesus, we are like children who are experiencing the joy of a Carousel for the first time. The world is going by in a dizzying blur and we are having a blast riding with You. Help us to see life from the viewpoint of a child. Help us to enjoy the moments we have with You and with the people who are walking this journey with us. Amen.
