Day by day, Christ is at work in each of us to change and mold us into something new. It’s difficult for us to recognize the changes that are occurring with us. When we look back over the last year, change is much easier to see. Our hearts, our thinking, and our actions are changing. We are being changed into something new and wonderful.
Recovery is an ongoing process of change and healing. God certainly could change us in an instant, if He desired. There are people in scripture who were transformed instantaneously. However, for most of us, God takes us through a process of change. He doesn’t want to just change our circumstances. God wants to mature us as well as change us. Maturity happens over time as we learn, grow, and experience Christ. God has an eternity to do His work, so He’s not in any rush to grow us.
The light of God is shining on us and we are being turned into light. God is light and we, His children, are children of light. If we are diligent in our recovery walk with Christ, change is inevitable. We become willing to be changed, we pray for God to make changes in us, and God does the work. We cannot boast about the changes God has done in us because all we did was be willing to be changed. God is causing us to grow and change, according to His good purpose.
