Each of us has a deep need for connection with other human beings. God placed this need in us. Going away from God’s design for us and living in isolation from others causes us to face some major consequences. Living outside of a community of loving and growing Believers is a major contributor to depression, addiction, and feelings of low self-worth. When we choose isolation over community, we always lose.
God has instilled in each of us a need for community, purpose, meaning, and direction. Without community it’s difficult, if not impossible, to have a purpose, meaning, and direction. When we live outside of community, we struggle and become easy prey for the enemy.
Christ came so that we could ‘have life to the full’ and have abundance.” We all need a close personal relationship with Christ. In order to have that close, personal relationship with Christ, we also need to have honest and real relationships with others. The reverse is true as well; having a close relationship with others requires us to be in an honest and real relationship, with Christ. We need both in order to live a sane, healthy life. We cannot have one without the other.
