Many of us have been running a good race. We’ve been doing what we’re supposed to be doing. We go to meetings, serve on leadership, reach out to the newcomers, and all the other things we do in our recoveries. Then, somewhere along the way, someone cuts us off. We are detoured away from the race we’ve been running.
Sometimes it’s a new relationship that consumes us. We’ve seen lots of people in recovery get into what we call “relation-slips.” We get detoured and our recovery suffers. At first, everything seems fine because we have something new and exciting in our lives. Then slowly, we find ourselves moving in a direction that is contrary to the race we’ve been running.
There are lots of other things that can cause us to detour away from our race. God will never detour us away from what He’s called us to do. If God called us into recovery, He’s not going to call us out of recovery in a few months to go do something else. God put us in this race for a reason and not a season. Recovery is a lifelong process. Recovery is a way of life. We have been placed in recovery, by God, to fulfill the mission He has given us. We must stay focused on this race and we must continue with God’s mission for us.
