Christian Recovery Devotional

God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

Romans 5:8

God cannot love us any less than He does right at this very moment. Equally, God cannot love us any more than He does right now. He doesn’t care how good we look, how good we have been or not been. God wants us to be close to Him at every moment. We were created for His pleasure and for His love.

Many think there is no way possible for us to clean up enough to come to God. Sometimes we hear people say that their lives are too much of a mess to ask Jesus in. This is a form of pride. If we think our messy lives are too chaotic for God, then we are believing that God isn’t big enough to handle our problems. There is nothing going on in our lives that can stand between us and the love Christ has for us.

Most of us lived through situations that seemed hopeless. Often, we hoped by being better ourselves or doing things differently that the circumstances of our lives would change. The more we tried to make our lives better, the worse everything turned out. We have to come to Christ as we are, with all our tangled messes and disrupted lives. Christ doesn’t look at the surface of everything, He looks at our hearts. We must come to Him in whatever state we find ourselves, not as polished versions of who we think He wants us to be.

Today’s Prayer

Heavenly Father, we come to You as we are, with our messy lives and brokenness. You love us no matter what. We were created to be loved by You and for us to love You. No matter how lost we have been, You seek to find and love us. Amen.
