We have this great need for God to be close to us so that we feel safe and secure in His love. When Christ is not the priority in our lives, we struggle with issues of compulsive behavior, control, anger, and low self-worth. Christ has to be at the top of our list of priorities. When we seek to dwell in Christ and allow Him to dwell in us, we experience freedom and joy.
Recovery teaches us how to dwell in Christ and allow Christ to dwell in us. We let go of our self-reliance and become Christ reliant. Over time we see more and more the insanity of our lives before recovery and the need to be restored to Christ and His plan for our lives. We surrender our wills freely to Him each day. Recovery in Christ is our dwelling place. Nothing else compares to the security we have in our new dwelling place.
When we understand the security we have in Christ, the old barriers begin to come down. There is no longer a need to put up walls and isolate from Christ and others. We are becoming less guarded and are able to live freely in our new dwelling place. We get to explore all the hidden rooms that we had locked in order to keep others out. No more locked doors. Christ is the master of this dwelling place, and His Reign is Sovereign.
