Encouragement is vital in our recoveries. We encourage one another to move forward, take healthy risks, and celebrate the milestones of our recoveries. Encouraging and spurring each other on is crucial for our daily walk with Christ and for our recovery journeys.
We do not live as the world lives. When a brother or sister receives something good, we don’t become jealous of their good fortune. We celebrate with them and find great joy in their accomplishments. A victory shared is a victory that’s multiplied. Encouragement for each other is a cornerstone of unity and the evidence of our love for each other.
Some of us are not comfortable with being encouraged by others. We came from families where there wasn’t a lot of encouragement. The idea of receiving and giving encouragement is foreign and oftentimes uncomfortable. Recovery offers us the opportunity to change, grow, and become people who are not enslaved by jealousy or a competitive spirit. Recovery allows us to engage fully in the lives of others when we love and encourage each other through our victories and our struggles.
