When we place our expectations in God and not in man, we will experience peace. God is always going to do what He promises. God will never fall short of our expectations. We often experience God giving us even more than we asked for or thought possible. God’s plan for us is perfect, and He fulfills every promise. We never have to question God’s intentions or His motives.
When we put expectations on people, we are usually going to be disappointed. People are broken and flawed. We all tend to do things that unintentionally hurt others. We are all short-sighted and have difficulty seeing consequences and end results. We all sin and fall short of the glory of God. We are all in need of a Savior because none of us can get through this life on our own.
The expectation of God’s blessings and goodness is healthy and helps us to put everything into perspective. When we place expectations on others, we become judgemental and bitter. No one can ever live up to our expectations. In fact, we can never live up to our expectations of ourselves. We might expect Believers to behave in a way that we think Believers should behave. We will always be disappointed when we have expectations on how others should act. Christ is the perfect example of how to live our lives. Recovery teaches us to rely on God with expectation and awe.
