James 2:17 tells us, ” faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” Our recovery requires us to have faith. We have to trust God in everything He is doing in our lives. But, what is faith if we don’t act on it? Lots of people claim to have faith. But without action, there is no proof of life. Our faith demands us to rise up and be the hands and feet of Christ. Faith itself moves us to do the things we would have never done on our own.
To have faith means we let go of our desire to never go outside our comfort zones. It’s not comfortable talking to a total stranger about how Christ changed us. It’s much easier talking to other Believers about being changed by Christ. To talk to someone we have just met about what we used to be like, what happened, and what we are like now requires faith in action.
God didn’t set us free from our hurts, habits, and hangups so that we could sit back, lift our feet up, and say “I got mine.” We have to let go of our selfish desires to have faith without action. True faith moves us past our selfishness and complacency. When we truly have faith, it’s going to show in our actions. With faith, we become doers of the Word and not just proclaimers of the Word. Our actions demonstrate our faith and our faith moves us to act.
