Every so often we hear about an emergency in progress. It could be young boys trapped in a cave in Thailand, or people rushing to escape fires in California. As Believers, we know that prayer is the one thing we can do to help those who are impacted by what is happening. We pray, and we ask others to pray. We know that God always answers our prayers.
There are times when we hear those who are not Believers say that prayer doesn’t have any effect on the situation. In some ways, they are correct. Our praying has little to do with the positive outcome of the events. This does not mean we should not pray. God’s answering of our prayers has everything to do with how situations are resolved. Prayer is vital in the process of asking God to intervene, but it isn’t our prayers that change the outcome. It is God’s action that makes the difference.
We pray and ask for God’s help because we are powerless. Our prayers alone do nothing to change the outcome. All glory and praise go to God for what He has done for us and continues to do for us. God wants us to pray for what we need, even though He already knows what we need. Prayer is understanding that we cannot do anything without God. We cannot boast or take credit for answered prayers. It’s God who wills and acts according to His good purpose.
