There is awesome power that is alive and at work in every Believer. This power does not originate from us but comes through us from God. God is alive and working in each of us to fulfill His good purpose. On our own, we can do nothing. But with God, we have the power to do amazing things according to His will and purpose.
As people in recovery, we found ourselves in a dilemma. We first had to admit that we were powerless. Outside of God, we could do nothing to change the circumstances we had gotten ourselves into. The more we tried to dig ourselves out of the problems we had created, the deeper we dug ourselves into our pits. We seem to have lots of power to create crises and very little power to remedy our situations.
Step 1 tells us we are powerless. Step 11 tells us we can receive God’s power through our conscious, daily contact with Him. We have no power other than the power to damage our lives. God has all power and is willing to use that power once we surrender our lives and wills to Him. In recovery, we let go of our self-destructive, false power in order to receive God’s real and lasting power. God is acting with power, in us so that He can grow and mature our relationships with Him.
