Recovery is the process of sanctification. Each day in recovery, we strive to be closer to Christ and to mature in our recoveries. This process of sanctification, moving closer to Christ and maturing in our recoveries, is called growth. The product of our growth is called fruit. None of us are called to this recovery journey to get what we want and then move on. We are called to bear fruit from our growth.
Plants require light and water to grow and bear seeds and fruit. In recovery, we also need light and water. We need the light of Jesus to shine brightly into our hearts, and we need His streams of living water to flow through our lives. With Christ’s light and His water, we experience phenomenal growth in our recoveries.
Christ loves us just where we are. But, He loves us too much to have us stay there. We grow in recovery today because Christ has given us a new sight. Before recovery, we only saw what was outside of us. Now we see with new eyes what’s going on inside of ourselves. Christ is growing us to shine His light deeper into ourselves. When we go deeper, His light can shine wider, outside ourselves. We have new growth, and we are now bearing fruit and growing the Kingdom of Heaven.
