Unconditional love is a topic that comes up from time to time in recovery. There is a need for each of us to love each other as Christ loved us. As broken, finite humans, we have limitations on how we show and give love to others. Christ does not have these same limitations. His love is unconditional and without end. Each of us, no matter how much we think we love someone else, places conditions on love. There is no way for us to imagine the depth of Christ’s unconditional love for us.
None of us would ever have issues of low self-esteem or unworthiness if we allowed ourselves to feel the love of Christ for just a moment. Christ loves us in a way that we cannot comprehend. Our love for another person pales in comparison to the love that comes from Christ.
Christ loved us so much that He willingly left the perfection of Heaven, was born into poverty, lived with us for a short time, and then died on the cross for us. Christ loved us so much we made a way for us to spend eternity with Him. While we were still living our lives, being selfish and self-destructive, Christ loved us and desired for us to be close to Him. The love of Christ has saved and given us this amazing new life called recovery.
