The term influencer came about recently to describe a person who has a large following on social media. An influencer is someone who can affect another individual’s behavior. The term influencer carries with it both positive and negative connotations. One of the negative aspects is extreme manipulation while trying to sell products. The influencer will attempt to push something as the next “cool thing” that everyone should have.
The term influencer does not need to be negative. In fact, most of us already are influencers. We have direct impacts on the world around us and the people in it. Christ says that we are the “Lights of the world,” shining brightly in the world that has gone dark. People who are searching for hope and meaning are attracted to the Light that is in each of us. In this way, we are influencers for Christ.
Being an influencer for Christ comes with a huge responsibility. We are examples of hope and change that come about from having relationships with Christ. We don’t need to manipulate or have the next cool thing. When we show others what Christ has done, and continues to do for us, we are being influencers for Christ. The love of Christ never grows old or goes out of style. Our steady light beacon others to come to Christ, receive healing, and become the next generation of influencers for Christ.
