The moment we open ourselves up to admitting we are powerless and we desperately need a savior, light shines on us. We begin to see things locked away inside us. This light permeates our souls to the core. We can now see the insanity of our old lives.
Light shines and we see ourselves. Some of us see ourselves for the first time. God’s light keeps us steady and without fear. Just a short time ago we would have run to our old behaviors to avoid this very light. But now, the light is comforting and we are unmoved. Christ’s light is steady and soothing.
As we journey through recovery with Christ, the light is always there. At one time we would have preferred the comfort of darkness. Unforgiveness, resentment, shame, and self-loathing all kept us wrapped up in a blanket of darkness. That old blanket no longer soothes us. We are now enveloped in a blanket of light. Light shines and the darkness has no place to hide.
