“I’ll make up for the years of the locust,
    the great locust devastation—
Locusts savage, locusts deadly,
    fierce locusts, locusts of doom,
That great locust invasion
    I sent your way.
You’ll eat your fill of good food.
You’ll be full of praises to your God,
The God who has set you back on your heels in wonder.
Never again will my people be despised.
You’ll know without question
that I’m in the thick of life with Israel,
That I’m your God, yes, your God,
the one and only real God.
Never again will my people be despised. Joel 2:25-32

There’s a price we pay for the luxury of carrying baggage with us through our lives. The price we pay for holding onto anger, resentments, guilt, shame, and remorse is steep. If our resentments could be traded like stocks, some of us would be very wealthy people. The reality is this, the price we pay for holding onto old hurts and anger costs us more than the richest stock broker could ever afford.

When we hold onto things from our past, we are purchasing misery on a payment schedule. We bought our anguish and distress because it became our comfort. We held onto the things that had long ago died because it was easier to hang onto them then it was to let go and grow. We traded our sanity and peace for things from the past that no longer existed.

God wants to recover the things that were lost and the years the locusts have eaten. The past is gone and God is giving us a new present and a new future. We let go of the things that have no value and allow God to give us unimaginable riches. God is making a way for us but the things from our past cannot come with us. We no longer find luxury in dead things.

Father God, be with us when the rains come down and we are flooded with anxiety and uncertanty. You are the first responder. You are the one who comes to rescue when everything seems hopeless. Thank You for always brining daylight after the storm. Amen.
