Our lives are composed of moments strung together to form a period of time. When we take personal inventory, we look back on those moments and look for where God was at work. Oftentimes when we are new to recovery, we think that we are taking a personal inventory to look at where we may have done things right or wrong. This is only partially true. The real reason for taking a personal inventory is not about us. We inventory our lives to see those God moments throughout our day.
When we take time to see God in the moments of our days, we see that He is always trying to show us what we need to look at in ourselves. The more we look for God, the more we see Him in everything. Each moment is filled with His presence. We find Him in quiet moments and in chaotic moments. God is in each moment, always present, always with us.
As we look for God in the moments of our lives, we stop searching for ourselves and begin looking for the One who created us. We start to see that God is always there, always available, and always loving us. This allows us to see the right and wrong aspect of our inventories in a different context; we look at where we might have done wrong to others, then focus on the things that God did right in the moments of our lives.
