God’s desire is to grow us into great leaders. Little by little each day, He is doing things in each of our lives to move us into the direction of being amazing servant leaders. The difficulty is that we don’t know what God knows. We don’t see ourselves as doing amazing things for the Kingdom of Heaven. Because of this, we dig our heels in, fighting God and how He sees us. One reason we do this is that we are afraid of failing and disappointing God. Another reason we push against God is that we are afraid we will be changed into a different person. So, in order to alleviate these anxieties and control our own destinies, we do not give God authority over our lives
However, God is a gentleman. He is not going to take us anywhere we don’t allow Him to take us. Unfortunately, when we don’t allow God to be the Lord over our lives, there are consequences. We lose purpose and meaning in our lives. Our attempts at being in control cause us to spiral more and more out of control. God’s plan for our lives is about giving us hope and a future we could have never dreamed possible. Certainly, we could never obtain what God has in store for us through our own power.
Surrendering to the plans that God has for us requires very little on our part. We have to be willing to go in the direction n which God is moving us. This doesn’t mean we won’t have difficulties. No great adventure ever happened without obstacles. Once we start putting one foot in front of the other, moving forward on God’s chosen path, we soon find we have momentum. Doing life on our own terms was like trying to run through mud. We never could get any traction and we seemed to be sinking deeper into the wet, soggy soil. God directs us away from the mud and onto dry ground. By allowing God to do this for us, we are becoming the people He has always meant us to be.
