Christian Recovery Devotional

Around midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening. Suddenly, there was a massive earthquake, and the prison was shaken to its foundations. All the doors immediately flew open, and the chains of every prisoner fell off!

Acts 16:25-26

Music has a way of breaking chains and causing prisons to crumble. Many of our Christ-centered recovery meetings start with a time of worship through music. When we join in worship through music, everything begins to change. We’re no longer weighted down by our struggles. We get a fresh perspective and insight into what’s happening in our lives.

Music has an amazing ability to help us engage with God and with others. When we enter a time of worship through music, we experience a connection that is immediate and, at times, profound. Music is powerful in how it moves us to experience freedom and hope. Just like the chains falling off Paul and Silas, our chains also fall off as we worship God in music and song.

Setting aside a time each day to experience God through music is an important part of our recoveries. Worship through music allows us to step back from the battles we experience and to find rest. God created music for us to be with Him. We disconnect ourselves from the noise that attempts to separate us from Him. When we sing songs of praise, our worlds shift, prison doors fling open, and we are no longer slaves to the struggles that seemed hopeless just moments ago.

Phil Wickham – Song In My Soul

Today’s Prayer

Heavenly Father, the whole universe is a symphony composed to glorify You. Every note arranged at just the right tempo. Music is everywhere and it’s sound rushes up to Your ears. May we worship You as the Universe plays a concert in Your honor. Amen.
