No Turning Back

Yes, all the things I once thought were so important are gone from my life. Compared to the high privilege of knowing Christ Jesus as my Master, firsthand, everything I once thought I had going for me is insignificant—dog dung. I’ve dumped it all in the trash so that I could embrace Christ and be embraced by him. Philippians 3:8 MSG

Burn the ships that brought us to this new land. We are here to stay, never going back. Torch the lifeboats as well. There can be no way left for us to return to the old. Let’s rejoice and praise God as the light from the burning ships flickers in the early dusk.

Burn all the bridges to our past. Burn those bridges that lead back to death and insignificance. There’s nothing left for us on the other side. Burn the bridges so that there’s no way for us to go back to mediocrity. Burn the bridges that entice us with false memories of a life past.

The worst days of recovery are so much better than the best days of our past. We now see that what we once fought so hard to hold onto is now worthless. Our lives before were rubbish compared to the Life in Christ we now enjoy. We have destroyed any way back to our old lives. The inferior is replaced by the miraculous. And now we dance in the flickering light of ships and bridges burning.

Heavenly Father, remove every escape route back to my old way of life. Burn the ships that brought me to recovery. Burn down the bridges that lead away from recovery. Be with me as I go through this journey of discovery your new life for me. Amen
