Step 11. We sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, praying only for knowledge of His will for us, and power to carry that out.
Each of us has a direct line to the creator and lord of this universe. How we apply that direct line in our daily lives is totally up to us. God allows us free will as to how we choose to experience Him. Step 11 is about moving forward in our relationship with God. The previous 10 steps have been about getting right with ourselves, those we have wronged, and beginning a relationship with God. Now in step 11, we are moving towards an intimate relationship with God.
Like any relationship, our relationship with Christ involves spending time getting to know Him. We read His word and reflect on His power in our lives. Our conscious contact is always intentional. We become conscious of our need to be in contact with Christ in everything we do. Every decision we make, every hope, desire, and need is taken to Christ in full awareness. The more we remain in contact with Christ, the more conscious we become.
Recovery is often referred to as an awakening. We are more than just awake in our recoveries. We are conscious in our contact with Christ. Before coming into recovery, many of us stumbled through life as if we were blind. We are now conscious, fully awake and able to glimpse a small part of what Christ is doing each day for us. The more we stay in conscious contact, the more we experience the power and glory of Christ in our lives.
