The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song. Psalm 28:7

There are times in life when each of us will encounter feelings of being overwhelmed. The responsibilities of our jobs, families, ministries, and all the other things that compete for our attention can drain us of our energy and leave us burned out. In recovery, there is a need for us to understand our limits and when we are heading toward being overwhelmed by the trials of life.

We are all going to be faced with being overwhelmed from time to time. However, there are a few things we can do to stop being overwhelmed by all that’s going on outside of us and learn how to be overwhelmed by Christ. We stop allowing the things that go on outside and around us to have control over us. In recovery, we learn to be overwhelmed in our heart by the peace and love of Christ.

Christ is calling each of us to have rest with Him. When we are overwhelmed by Christ, we don’t succumb to the stresses of this world. Christ gives us the strength to face everything in life with a sense of hope and joy. Being overwhelmed by Christ allows us to live from the inside out and not from the outside in. We face life with sanity and resolve that can only come from being overwhelmed by Christ.

Lord Jesus, overwhelme me with Your peace and rest. Move me from the inside out and not let me get overtaken by the stresses of this world. Let me find peace in You always. Thanks for making a way to be overwhelmed by Your love. Amen.
