Christ has created this amazing pathway towards sanctification, and recovery is the vehicle we use to travel on Christ’s pathway. Sanctification is going to be a lifelong journey, so there are a few things we need to have for this journey. The first is our vehicle. Is it in good working condition? Do we do regular maintenance and repair? Our vehicles use God’s Word as the gasoline. The oil that lubricates our engines is our recovery fellowship. If the vehicle does not have the proper fuel or does not have the right amount of oil, we will probably not get very far.
This is going to be a long journey, but we don’t need to bring a lot of baggage with us. In fact, it’s better if we leave all that old stuff behind. A vehicle filled with guilt, shame, resentments, and regrets tends to be weighed down, and the cost of making this journey gets significantly higher. We are definitely going to have to leave all our old stuff behind if we are going to make it to the end of this journey.
Christ has set the GPS and we are off on an amazing adventure. This vehicle called recovery will need to have regular fill-ups of Gods Word and maintenance along the way. Christ has taken care of all the details. He makes sure that we have all we need for this long journey. There might be times when we are tempted to take a detour. This is why it’s so important for us to have a vehicle that can take us past those places that are not on Christ’s path. The destination is just up ahead. Christ is there, welcoming us home with arms wide open.
