Many of us came into Christ-centered recovery because we were worn out, beat up, and seeking relief from the disaster that was our lives. Recovery offered us something that no drug, alcohol, or any other compulsion could ever give us. Recovery gave us the opportunity to experience the peace of Christ. Peace cannot come from anything other than Christ, because real and lasting peace does not exist outside of Christ.
The peace of Christ comes when we realize we can no longer manage our own lives. The more we try to take control of our lives, the more out of control our lives become. We are not supposed to rule our own lives. God designed this world so that we would depend on Him. When we attempt to make ourselves the master of our lives, we miss out on the peace that can only come from a surrendered life.
This Christmas, may we all find the peace of Christ. The ultimate Christmas present is surrendering ourselves to Christ. What we receive from surrendering to Christ is a peace that surpasses anything this world can offer. There will still be difficult times in life. God doesn’t promise us a life without struggles. However, with Christ, we have a peace that sustains us through the storms of this life. Christ’s Peace is always with us, no matter what struggles we face in life.
