A Process Not An Event

We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. – Romans 5:1-5 (NLT)

Recovery is a process. Just as sanctification is a process. Our salvation may have looked like an event, but for many of us, there was a process that God took us through to get to that event of being saved. Yes, while we were still sinners, God loved us.

God is growing us through a process. At times, the process is uncomfortable and even a bit painful. We learn that the pain of growing is temporary and that, if we keep on this recovery journey, pain will soon subside. In recovery. we learn that we can even rejoice and trust God through our hardships. He allows us to experience pain and hardships and we learn to thank Him for allowing us the opportunity to grow and develop character.

There are times in recovery that we will question if this process is worth going through. Persevere, keep moving forward. Each footstep forward leads to an even greater awareness of Christ’s presence in our lives. The struggle we go through now will allow us to work with others more effectively and, in doing so. glorify God.

Father God, thank you for the process. You allow me to go through difficulties and hardships in order to grow me in this process of sanctification. My life is yours. No matter how I see it. All things come together for your good. May I always stay in your will. Amen.
