The hand of the Lord was on me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the Lord and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry.  He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?”

I said, “Sovereign Lord, you alone know.”

Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life.” Ezekiel 37:1-5

A person who attends recovery meetings but has not been working the 12 steps, or doing anything for their recovery, is referred to as dry. There is very little life in their recovery.  It’s as if the flow of water that comes from Christ has been turned off. They become like the bones scattered in The Valley of Dry Bones.

It’s important for us to know when we are in The Valley of Dry Bones. We need to know that we are thirsty. There are times we deny being dehydrated. We don’t understand the warning signs of dehydration and we deprive ourselves the opportunity the have our thirst quenched.

Recovery in Christ is a stream of living water. The stream flows over and around us and it changes us. Like rocks being changed by the flow of water in the river, our edges are smoothed and we become more rounded, less jagged.

How is your walk with Christ today? Is your Recovery dry and in the valley? Or is a stream of living water flowing over you?

Jesus, I invite you into my heart to take up residence. Help me to clear our the junk from my past. Make this heart new. Be with me as I go through the process of recovery to make even more room for you in my heart. Amen.
