Recovery in Christ calls for us to be Peacemakers. We are to make peace in all situations and at all times. Romans 12:18 says, “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” Being a peacemaker means that we are to do everything possible to make peace in all our relationships.
Being a peacemaker requires a lot of patience, understanding, and acceptance. People are not always going to behave in a way that we like. Sometimes it will be extremely difficult to get along with the people in our lives. Most times it’s going to be ourselves who have problems getting along with others.
Peacemakers and peacekeepers are completely different. Peacemakers are proactive and peacekeepers are reactive. Peacemakers are recovery oriented and peacekeepers are codependent. Peacekeepers attempt to fix; peacemakers focus on healing and understanding that they cannot control or fix situations or people. Peacemakers don’t hesitate when an amends is required.
Christ calls for all Believers to be healthy Peacemakers. We are to look for ways to make peace in all situations and with all people. We are the initiators of peace.
