Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers. Psalm 1:1-3

In Psalm 1, God is giving us a wonderful promise. When we move away from the dry desert of our self-will and into God’s plan for our lives, we receive His peace and provision. In God’s will, we are planted by streams of water. His word quenches our thirst and we are refreshed.

As we grow in recovery, our roots grow deeper. We realize what had once caused fear and anxiety now has no control over us. We are being sustained by streams of Christ’s living water. He grows us and we bear fruit. Soon others who journey out of desert lands come to drink from the water of His stream. We are able to provide comfort and hope because we have been where they are. We have made the successful transition from the scorched desert to the waters of life.

Have you been planted by streams of water? Recovery is a process of being planted. Christ gives us this wonderful community of Believers who have been where we once were. Recovery is a refreshing stream that renews us and keeps us rooted in the love and grace of our lord Jesus Christ.

Heavenly Father, thank you for planting me by streams of living water. Thank You for the forever family I now have in recovery. Help me to also be of comfort to others as they come out of dry deserts and rest by Your quenching springs. Amen.
