“I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”

John 10:28-30

Many of us struggle with trust because of promises that were continually broken when we were children. We learned from an early age to not trust what others told us. Sometimes, the promises came with an added injury to our perceptions of reality. The adults would act as if they had never made the promises in the first place, or worse, they accused us of fabricating the whole thing. We learned not to trust others, as well as our own experiences.

Later on in our lives, we became the ones who were not capable of following through on our promises. Some of us promised to stop drinking or using drugs. Others promised to be faithful and to not look at porn. We made promises that we would never do what had caused ourselves and others pain. We broke all of our promises because we weren’t capable of keeping them without God’s help.

God has always kept every promise He has ever made. We had no trust in Him because of our past experiences with broken promises. Slowly, we have learned to trust Him with every assurance He’s given us. We have begun to see that people in our lives, including ourselves, were not capable, without God’s strength and guidance, of living up to any of the vows we had made. Because of God’s steadfastness, we can trust again. God will not ever waiver on His promises. God’s Word will always remain true, and His promises will not be broken.

NEEDTOBREATHE – Keep Your Eyes Open

Today’s Prayer

Father God, You keep each and every promise You make to us. None of your promises were spoken without truth or knowledge that you could not fulfill them. Help us to believe that You are always going to come through on each and every promise You make. Amen.
