The word rejoice is found 40 times in the Gospels and 80 times in Psalms. God is telling us He wants us to rejoice in this life He has given us. Does this mean that if we have struggles, He is no longer with us? No, in fact, God wants us to rejoice in Him even in the middle of our difficult times. Even in sorrow, we find comfort and joy in knowing that God is with us.
Christ-centered recovery teaches us to rejoice in God in everything that happens in our lives. God is near to the broken-hearted and He rescues those who are crushed in spirit. We are learning to depend on God and rejoice in Him in all situations. Real happiness does not come from what we have but from what God has. Real happiness comes from surrendering to God and living in His Will.
The lie this world tells us is that God will not give us anything we can’t handle. The truth is we are not supposed to be handling this world on our own. God has designed this world so that we are always moving towards Him and away from our failed attempts at self-reliance. The more we move towards God, the more we find ourselves rejoicing in every situation.
