The gift of relationship is the greatest present we can give to another person. Getting swept up in the idea that we need to spend more money to get people gifts is easy to do. The world tells us that giving material gifts is how we should demonstrate our love. When we spend to buy love, we then have the consequence of financial burden. God does not want us to be burdened financially to experience a relationship with each other. We need to spend less, but give more.
Any meaningful relationship is developed because we invest time and care into that relationship. A combination of time, love, and support is the greatest gift we can give one another. Being a Believer in Christ opens our hearts to others. We take greater risks to allow ourselves to experience deeper levels of honesty and openness with the people who God has placed in our lives.
Having close friendships with people we trust is vital to our recoveries. We no longer can successfully live our lives secluded from others. God has designed us for community, and we have a need to share our lives with other Believers. No gift is more precious than the gift of closeness in a relationship.
