Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:3

We have this wonderful gift from God. A gift so valuable that He wanted it to be only for us, His beloved children. This gift is called repurposing. In recovery, we discover that God has a plan for everything, even our past pain. God is taking the wreckage of our past and is repurposing that mess into something beautiful.

What we used to look at as shameful, dirty, and embarrassing, we now see as God’s perfect plan. God did not cause the hurts of our past to happen but He allowed those hurts to happen so that we could experience and grow from them. Now God is repurposing those same hurts in order to reach others who are hurting and to grow the Kingdom of Heaven.

Our past is being repurposed. In order for God to use our past, we have to first change how we view our past. We have to let go of shame, guilt, and resentments over what happened in our past. If we are truly new creations, then the things that happened in the past are what happened to the old, dead self. What we did before coming to Christ is not our identity today. God repurposes our past, while at the same time giving us a purpose for our present and future.
