There can be no love without sacrifice. Real love calls for us to sacrifice something we value. Sacrifice might be time, freedom, our own comfort, or our own selfish desires. Without sacrifice, there can be no real love.
Relationship and marriages don’t survive for long periods of time in the culture of this world because people are not willing to sacrifice. Our culture does not want to put suffering before glory. We want the reward without putting in the work for it. Love without sacrifice is empty, void, and selfish.
Recovery is a process that requires us to stop living as the world lives. We stop living in the mentality of “I got mine, so now I’m good.” Sometimes we don’t want to go to our recovery meetings. We just want to stay home and take a break. Here’s the problem – sin is not taking a break. The enemy is working hard to get us out of our recovery and into isolation. There are days we sacrifice our comfort and time to go to a recovery meeting and be of service to others. This is real love. As Jesus said in Luke 10:27, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'”. We love because Christ sacrificed His life for us. In the same way, we sacrifice ourselves for others.
