Imagine what it would be like to be lost for so long that lost became your normal. That’s exactly what it was like before coming into Christ-centered recovery. We lived our lives without direction or purpose, and everyone else seemed to be doing the same thing. We viewed our lives as existing from one day to the next. For many of us, living life to the full meant that we needed to get what we could before someone else did.
Somewhere along the way God intervened. For many of us, this intervention happened in the form of a crisis. God had been trying to get our attention, and we finally were motivated to listen. In our desperation, we sought God and asked for His help. Usually, our prayers were attempts to bargain with God. Many of us prayed that we would change if He would get us out of the mess we created.
There were also times when we knew that things were not right. Our lives may not have been a complete mess, but things were still not right. Intuitively we knew there was something more to life, but we didn’t know how to go about finding it. We stopped trying to fill the hole in our hearts with worldly things and sought God to fill that void. We sought God with all our hearts and soon found Him. He was there the entire time. We then knew that God found us because we were the ones who were lost, not Him.
