We are a free people. Christ has set us free from the law of sin and death and now we are living under grace. Christ, through His sacrifice on the cross, not only gave us eternal life but freedom from the burden of living under the law of the Old Testament. Christ told us in Matthew 5:17, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.”
Christ’s death ensured that we would not be weighed down by religion and the laws that come from religion. We did nothing on our own to obtain this freedom. Christ paid the price for our freedom through His death on the cross. Now we are free to love and serve Christ and others.
Freedom comes with responsibility. We are responsible for spreading a message of hope and grace that only Christ gives us. When newcomers enter the doors of recovery, we are responsible for reaching out and welcoming them. We share the love of Christ and the freedom that Christ has given to us. Freedom in Christ gives our lives meaning, purpose, and direction. We are free people. We are no longer held captive by the enemy and the laws of man-made religion. We are free indeed.
