Each of us has an amazing gift God has given us. Each time we go to our recovery meetings, we get to share openly and honestly with others who are also going through some of the same things we are experiencing. Sharing in our groups freely, without fear, permits us to experience moments that most of the world will never encounter. Open and honest sharing in our groups gives us an opportunity to step out of the chains of isolation and loneliness.
Having the ability to disclose our past hurts is one of the greatest blessings God gives to us. Communicating our struggles from our hearts is something that is very rare. Most people don’t ever get to have this rewarding experience of becoming vulnerable in a safe and encouraging group. We find ourselves among the blessed few who have the opportunity to be a part of God’s love in action.
Openly sharing with others is not only a blessing for ourselves but also for those who are listening. When we admit our struggles in front of new people in recovery, we are actually teaching them that it’s all right to share and how to do it. This kind of recovery group shows the new people how healing takes place. It also demonstrates their own group can be safe. God is giving us this wonderful opportunity for us to experience hope and restoration. We confess our hurts, sadness, joy, pain, experiences, and loss with one another and God does the work of transformation and healing. This simple process of sharing is one of the single most important things we can do on the road to recovery.
