Shifting Shadows

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. James 1:17

Everything in this life changes. Except for Christ. He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. Situations may change, people come into our lives and then depart, and feelings are fleeting. But Christ is always the same.

Change is a huge part of our recovery programs. Change is essential for our growth and recovery walk with Christ. We have to ask ourselves, what has changed in me in the last year? Have I let go of hurts and resentments? Am I able to handle stress better than I did a year ago? Am I more open and honest with myself and others? Change has got to be welcomed and nurtured in our recovery.

Christ is the one constant thing in our recovery. With Christ, we can face all the changes that will occur in our lives. Christ, the one constant does not change like shifting shadows. Having Christ be the one constant in our lives will be a comfort in an ever-changing world.

Written by James Miller

Christ, you are constant. You never change with the seasons. My life may take different directions and people come and go, but you are always steady. I pray for that consistency in my life. Thank you for always being close by on this recovery journey. Amen.
