When we trust in Christ, we are trusting Him to be our Soul Shepherd. We surrender our wills over to His care daily and Christ then leads us “to will and to act according to His good purpose.” Each day our Good Shepherd leads us through the valley of death, which is the world we live in, and beside still waters. Jesus gives us rest and nourishes us while we are surrounded by chaos and suffering.
Jesus is the Shepherd of our soul through times of strife, confusion, and joy. No matter the situation, we turn to Christ and then turn whatever is happening over to Him. Many of us are so used to attempting to be our own soul shepherd that we automatically attempt to do this life without our Good Shepherd. Then when we realize that we can do nothing apart from Christ, we then turn to Him to shepherd us through the dark valleys of life.
Christ is the Soul Shepherd of our recoveries. He’s always present when there’s a danger of relapse and sliding back into our old ways. He has us lay in the green pastures, which are our recovery groups. And, He leads us to still waters, which are our sponsors and accountability partners. We surrender to our Soul Shepherd and know that there is no need to fear. Christ is in control and is leading us on His paths.
