Our recovery journey is not without peril. There are risks and dangers on this journey. It’s not all going to be bright sunny skies and pretty flowers. We’re on an adventure and, as with every great adventure, there are going to be hazards. We are going to experience traps and snares, set to trip us up, take us off the path Christ has set for us.
We must stay alert and vigilant. Identifying patterns in thinking and behavior that get us stuck, preventing us from moving forward, will keep us alert. Stopping us from recognizing our old patterns is one of the ways the enemy uses to ambush our journeys. Therefore, recovery work is extremely important. We must stay vigilant through daily inventories, meetings, prayer, and meditation on God’s Word.
There is great value in our recovery walk with Christ. The enemy endeavors to distract and tempt us with whatever means he can find, diverting us from our journeys. Nothing can separate us from Christ or the destinations He has chosen for us. We can become sidetracked, confused when we lose focus on Christ and recovery. Christ has given us everything we need to protect us from the traps that have been set along our recovery paths.
