Though he may stumble, he will not fall,
for the Lord upholds him with his hand.
Psalm 37:24

Sometimes in life, each of us is going to stumble. We might even fall all the way to the ground. There are going to be things in life that trip us up. In the visions we have for our lives, it’s easy to set our focus on what’s down the road, to forget to look out for what’s right in front of us. While it’s good to have long-term goals, we need to stay vigilant on the path before us.

There will be times when we stumble and it won’t be anything we did or could have avoided. Our place of employment might downsize or even go out of business. Health issues might affect us or our loved ones. We might even relapse on one of our recovery issues. We live in a broken world; from time to time we may get tripped up, or even trip ourselves up.

The good news is, no matter how hard we stumble, God will catch us. He will lift us up in victory and use our stumbles for everyone to see His true might and glory. In recovery, we no longer stumble through life, blind like we did before. We see the obstacles laid out before us and learn how to avoid them. When we do stumble, God lifts us up, dusts us off, and encourages us to continue down the road to recovery.

Heavenly Father, sometimes I stumble. You are always there to pick me up. Please watch over me as I go along this road to recovery. Help me keep my eyes on you and not down the road. You light a lamp at my feet and not way out in front of me. Help me to see the obstacles in my way and avoid pitfalls. I pray all this in Your beautiful Son’s name, Jesus Christ. Amen.
