Christian Recovery Devotional

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,

Hebrews 12:1

In our new lives, we are surrounding ourselves with people who will support, encourage, and inspire us. We also let go of those people who are toxic and only want to bring us down. We are learning to make better choices about who we will bring into our circles. We learn that shame-based people have no place in our new lives.

God is surrounding us with a new community of Believers. This community of Believers is our forever family. God has placed them there to support, love and hold us accountable. The world is full of people who reject accountability and refuse to hold others responsible for their own actions. People in recovery know that without these types of boundaries, we become the image of this world and not of Christ.

We surround ourselves with people who love us enough to give us the truth. Truth is given with grace and love, always for the purpose of maturing and growing one another. However, brutal honesty is never our objective. We learn how to be in a community of sanctification. In recovery, we find real fellowship and support. Our recovery is built on Christ’s accountability and not the collusion of this world.
