Our God is a God of second chances. God not only welcomes us back, but He also runs to greet us on our way back. Once we have given our lives over to His care, we belong to Him. This doesn’t mean that we will not stray and lose our way. Many of us have tried to go off on our own, merely to discover that life with Christ is so much better than life without Him.
God allows us to come back to Him. He loves us so much that not only does He give us a comeback, He also rejoices in our return. When we ask for His forgiveness, He wipes the slate clean. Our God forgives, rejoices, and celebrates our return.
Christ has given us the perfect example of what to do when one of us returns from a relapse. No matter how much it hurts when one of us drifts away from our recovery groups, we rejoice in their return. Recovery is not always a straight path. Sometimes we take detours and allow ourselves to lose focus, become distracted. God is always waiting for our return. None of us are turned away from the banquet that is Christ-centered recovery.
