Christ gives each of us who trust in Him an amazing gift of power. Without Christ in our lives, we are powerless and our lives are a complete mess. With Christ, we have the power to do the miraculous and unimaginable. For some of us who struggled with alcohol and drug addiction, going a day without taking a drink or using was almost impossible. On our own, we lacked the power to not drink or take a drug. But Christ, who has all power, has given us the ability to do more than just not drink or take a drug. Christ has moved us into a realm of perpetual growth and maturity.
Lack of power was our dilemma. We lacked even the basic power needed to move forward and sustain growth over a period of time. We had little spurts of growth here and there but when we turned our lives and wills over to the care of Christ, we began to experience His power flowing through us like a current.
Christ’s gift of power has one condition attached to it. You cannot use the gift of power for yourself. The gift has to be used to serve others and to glorify Christ. The power Christ gives us is not for anything we can do. The gift of power comes from Christ filling us with the Holy Spirit. Christ’s power does not cause us to jump up and down and run around without purpose. Christ filling us with power with the Holy Spirit is practical. Christ doesn’t give us His power to jump high but rather to walk straight. Christ gives us this amazing gift of power and with His power, we can do the miraculous.
