Our God is the ultimate Gardner. Parts of us that are dead and dying are being cut away so that new growth can spring forth. If those parts of us that are dead and dying remain attached, they will cause us to wither away. We have to allow God to prune away the dead places in order to allow the new life to grow. God is taking everything out that is no longer useful or will cause rot and decay in the healthy parts of us.
We are the branches that grow from the vine. Healthy branches produce fruit. As God prunes us, we stay healthy and strong, yielding more fruit. God is acting as our gardener. He cuts away what is unhealthy and dying, allowing each of the branches to help the vine to thrive.
Jesus is the true vine and we are His branches. Whatever is holding us back from experiencing a real relationship with Christ and others needs to be cut away. Recovery is about pruning off dead and dying branches that could potentially harm us. We don’t see the harm because the dead parts have been there so long that we have become accustomed to them. Our ability to become healthy and bear fruit depends on us allowing the ultimate Gardener to do His Job. Once all the dead and dying branches are cut away, we can begin to thrive and become overflowing with fruit.
